To analyze why a student can or cannot do a yoga posture a teacher must learn to look past the surface of the body and see it as a moving skeleton. More specifically a teacher needs practice in analyzing the body as fourteen skeletal segments and seven muscular segments. All yoga poses are combinations of these segments.
This training emphasizes touching, moving and analyzing ourselves and our classmates. This is the only way we can master these ideas. Day by day, hour after hour, by repeatedly applying these basic principles all the bewildering variety of yoga poses becomes a transparent, almost simple combination of basic movements. Once a teacher masters Fourteen Segment Analysis the use of props and variations becomes obvious. These principles apply to all yoga poses of all styles, even the ones not invented yet.
